Preventative Healthcare for Dogs

Pet Dog Health Care

Keeping your dog happy and healthy is a lifelong journey and part of responsible pet ownership. From regular vaccinations to good nutrition, here’s everything you need to know to give your furry friend the best life possible.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are vital for protecting dogs against serious diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, and canine cough. The C5 vaccine which protects against all of these diseases is considered core, with additional vaccines like Leptospirosis not performed at Ferny Grove Vet as it has not been identified in greater Brisbane yet.

  • Puppies typically begin vaccinations at 6–8 weeks of age.
  • Boosters are given every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age.
  • Annual or triannual boosters may be recommended depending on the part of the vaccine, eg canine cough is given yearly and parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis triannually.

Protecting your dog through vaccination is not only vital for their health but also helps control the spread of diseases in the wider community.
